Newcomer Kat DeLuna's sound is a colorful canvas that blends Hip Hop, R&B, Meringue, Pop, Latin Jazz, Electronica and Dance; the bilingual songstress does it all. Born in the Bronx, Kat was raised in the Dominican Republic. Upon returning to the U.S., her parents divorced leaving her family in a dire financial situation. But this prompted the level-headed pre-teen to stay in school and work harder to "make it." She started performing at local carnivals and shared the stage with singers like Milly Quezada and Marc Anthony. At 14, Kat was accepted to the New Jersey School of the Performing Arts and continued performing locally with a girl group, Coquette. At 15, Kat encountered her fate when she entered a karaoke competition where her version of the classic "I Will Always Love You" and won first place. At this competition she met legendary Cuban salsa singer Rey Ruiz who motivated her to begin writing her own music. Her efforts have paid off. Kat De Luna is the voice behind the 2007 summer hit, "Whine Up." This 19-year-old star-on-the-rise, recently released album, "9 Lives" on GMB Music Group/Epic Records is sure to have the same chart-topping response as her first single.
