PASTILLA

Pastilla (meaning Pill) is a musical remedy of frenetic, intercultural experiences and the existenial explorations of the Monroy brothers. Born in chaotic Juarez, Mexico, the Monroys grew up around rock. Moving to the L.A. suburb of Pomona, they encountered the Latin-alt scene and were soon joined by two friends - Heriberto Gonzales and Eric Rubalcaba - who would help them become Pastilla. The name refers to the band's effect on its listeners: "the mental, physical and spiritual euphoria that cures any and all pain." Their 1996 self-titled debut was released by indie label Aztlan Records but their work on compilation discs is what really turned heads. Pastilla signed with BMG/Ariola Mexico in 1998 and released Vox Electra which brought the group to an international audience. But in 2003 they returned to their indie roots with Hey! which was a reflection of the Monroys' spiritual and personal journey. In 2006, Pastilla re-teamed with producer Ernesto Ramirez and collaborated with A-list musician, producer and arranger Jorge "Chiquis" Amaro. Recording their fourth album, the band came full circle and signed with Sony BMG to release A Marte.
