All-Latino Fantasy Football Team
Posted on August 20, 2009
Not too hard to spot the signs of a fast-approaching NFL season: Madden arrives on store shelves; Brett Favre makes his umpteenth comeback; and fantasy football starts consuming the lives of guys across America. Yes, I participate in on of these leagues, and recently a friend presented me with an interesting challenge – draft a fantasy football team made up entirely of Latino players. I pulled off the same feat in my baseball league (currently in second to last place, thank you) but considering I actually have money on fantasy football, I respectfully declined. Still, drafting an all-Latino FFL squad remained intriguing enough for me to attempt on Internet paper. So, I present “Los Novios de Model Latina” - your Scorecard fantasy football team (draft at your own risk):
![]() Mark Sanchez
Position: Quarterback
2008 Stats: N/A
Rundown: IF he starts...will be one of the most interesting storylines to watch all season.
![]() Chad Ochocinco
Position: Wide Receiver #1
2008 Stats: 53 Rec, 540 Yds, 4 TD
Rundown: Scorecard’s favorite honorary Latino bounces back from a sub-par ’08, you just watch.
![]() Anthony Gonzalez
Position: Wide Receiver #2
2008 Stats: 57 Rec, 664 Yds, 4 TD
Rundown: He plays wide receiver on Peyton Manning’s team. Expect “The Other Tony Gonzalez” to get the ball some more with the exit of Marvin Harrison.
![]() Greg Camarillo
Position: Wide Receiver #3
2008 Stats: 55 Rec, 613 Yds, 2 TD
Rundown: Injury cut short a promising ‘08 season in which he emerged as the Dolphins’ top pass catcher.
![]() Knowshon Moreno
Position: Running Back #1
2008 Stats: N/A
Rundown: A bit of a gamble cause the heritage remains unconfirmed, but my buddy swears that the rookie RB belongs to Team Latino. I’m sold.
![]() Justin Fargas
Position: Running Back #2
2008 Stats: 853 Yds, 1 TD
Rundown: The Puerto Rock speedster shares carries with a couple other talented running backs, but how can you not put Huggy Bear’s son on the squad?
![]() Tony Gonzalez
Position: Tight End
2008 Stats: 96 Rec, 1058 Yds, 10 TD
Rundown: THE Tony Gonzalez will always make any all-Latino team as long as he’s in the league. Also, I expect big things from him in Atlanta.
![]() Juaquin Iglesias
Position: W/R/T
2008 Stats: N/A
Rundown: Will he get the ball in Chicago? Sure, more importantly his name sounds like the winner of a Latin Grammy “Best New Artist” award.
![]() Olindo Mare
Position: Kicker
2008 Stats: 24 FG, 30 PAT
Rundown: Cause he’s not one of the Grammatica brothers.
