Hairspray, Film Vs. Broadway Musical
Author: PapiChuloSo I recently saw the new HAIRSPRAY with John Travolta and I have to say it was fantastic. I mean I really believed that Travolta was a women, very convincing. Although I enjoyed the entire cast, I still thought that it was different from the Broadway musical. For one thing, they both end differently. But the main thing I must point out is the role of Penny Pingleton.
In the movie Amanda Bynes plays Penny, while Alexa Vega is now playing her on Broadway. I love them both, but Amanda really didn't have much to play with on the film. Alexa on the other hand was off the chart.
In my opinion I think Alexa just steals the show. There was just something about this girl that I just couldn't get my eyes off her. She was on from beginning to end and extremely committed even when she was off to a corner. And did I mention Alexa is Latina (half Columbian). If you're in NY, go check it out…Alexa is a Broadway star and I can't wait to see what she'll do next.

In the Heights
Author: PapiChuloWow, wow, and wow again. I just saw In The Heights and I was just blown off me seat. It is so rare whenever you see a musical with some latino flavor that's actually really good. So many times we just try to support a show just because it's Latino. But this one is just off the hook.
The music was hot, the actors were great, the story line was engaging and it keeps your attention from beginning to end. The cast is good looking and boy can they dance. And the best part is this show is going to BROADWAY. I have to admit it reminded me of a Latino version of RENT. There's one number called "96,000" that reminded me of "Seasons of Love". Unfortunately it just closed last Sunday but it's coming soon to the great whit way.
