SABER
Author: daytripperMany of us know this artist for his infamous piece on the L.A. river. There is a small poster of it posted next to my desk.. haha.
Ok so I'm not your everyday "writer" and neither am I here to tell you about his life story. I'm just another artist who appreciates the visuals. The reason why I am singling SABER out is because in my current issue of JUXTAPOZ there is a spread of his work. I'm also a fan of the L.A. landscape, and my friends he captures it very well. Whether it be, brush, can or ink he gets the job done. Unfortunately I could not find an image. When you get the chance pick up this months issue of Juxtapoz. This publication is a turn pager! If you don't like to read, this magazine will drive you to read about its aesthetic images and feed your mind with urban culture.
I thank my ex-boyfriend for introducing me to the world of graff. and all it's ups and downs. Check it out!

Tags: -Mexico City Celebrates Frida Kahlo
Author: daytripperEl gran ciudad de Mexico is paying a 100 yr. homage to one of my heroes Frida Kahlo. The exhibition is one of the largest Frida Kahlo exhibits and it will be held in El Palacio de Bellas Artes through out the month of July and will come to an end on August 19th. It is simply titled "Frida Kahlo 1907-2007." I believe this to be one of the greatest acts of appreciation and love towards the artist. She loved her beloved Mexico. The exhibit consists of 354 of her pieces: 65 oil paintings, 45 drawings, 11 water colors, and 5 etchings. Along side her works there will also be a collection of 50 personal letters and more than 100 photographs that documented her political and social life.

"I never painted dreams. I painted my own reality."
The only other exhibit Frida had in her native country, during her life time, was in 1953. It's been 100 yrs. in the making Frida, but it is finally here! It will be a grand display of what was her love, pain, affairs, family… her life.
Yours truly will be attending this beautiful celebration next month. I will be spending my summer in MEXICO and indulge in this fine exhibit. I'll update you on what was daytrippers grand adventure in El Palacio de Bellas Artes from MEXICO CITY! ORALE!!

Tia Chucha’s Centro Cultural
Author: daytripperTia Chucha's has been a part of the North East side of the San Fernando Valley for the past 5 yrs. or so. They have contributed an abundance to their community. Offering workshops such as, Son Jarocho, Danza Azteca, Guitar classes, Young Wom[y]ns Circle, Dj classes, Momma Hayes Hip Hop classes and their annual Spoken and Sung Words Festival. I've been involved with Tia Chucha's since the beginning, well almost.. haha. I have made a great deal of friendships in this cafe and met a few mentors as well.
Luis J. Rodriguez and his many partners who helped create and establish Tia Chucha's have been putting nothing but love and dedication to empowering their community and the youth. They are currently working on a community and culture benefit concert. With performances by Culture Clash, Tierra, and Upground, just to name of few. This event will be held in the Hollywood Bowl and tickets are NOW on sale, so got out there and get 'em!!

Author: daytripperI'm sure many of you have seen and heard of this awesome culture and arts magazine. I personally can not get enough of it. Last months issue I came across an artist by the name of USUGROW. Located in Japan he is an amazing talent, amongst others in this publication. Looking through his work inspired me to get another tattoo. His talent varies from graffiti, ink, and tattoos.
Check it!

Author: daytripperSi mi hente, un "ritmo que pesa." I'm referring to Cultura Profetica. They are a Puerto Rican Reggae based band. If you are looking for something to indulge during this hot summer, keep cool with their steady stock music that'll have you swaying your hips and bobbing your head. I first heard of this band when I went to the annual Bob Marley Festival this year. If you're looking for a good listen pick up their c.d. and tune in
