Manu moshpit
Me and the raza went to last night’s Manu Chao concert at Brooklyn’s Prospect Park. Now I’ve seen Manu a few times in New York front and center, so you know I’m all about the mosh pit. I earned my stripes in the late 80s bouncing between Public Enemy and Slayer shows at the old Felt Forum. But last night cats were bringing it back like Suicidal Tendencies was in the house. Elbows and punches were being directed at anyone stepping within the circle. Guys and girls were equal. During Manu’s “Me gustas tu” the pit was so brolic and infested with volatile vengeance that it could’ve taken out any skin head mosh. This one salon dread poked this other Mexican kid in his eye. The retaliation was a jump kick to the kid’s neck. Ouch. This other kid elbowed me in the back then proceeded to grab my leg to flip me! I had to get medieval on him and kick him in his stomach, although I was really aiming for down below. Desperate times call for desperate measures. All the while the love song played in the background. Shout out to Lil Alex and Toofly for their commie courage and the big dude who held them together when the onslaught began.
