Sí TV Host Loves Crazy Sports Fans

What would sports be without the fans? No one knows the answer to that better than Mario Calderon, the host of Sí TV’s Fandemonium. Recently, I caught up with the globetrotting EcuaRican and talked to him about crazy fans, what to look forward to in Fandemonium Season 2, and the one athlete he’d want to interview above all others.

SITV.COM: OK, for anyone who hasn’t seen the show, what is Fandemonium?
Mario Calderon: Fandemonium is a show where fans get to meet their favorite stars. So, if you’re a fanatic, you want to be a part of our competition. Basically, we give people who wouldn’t otherwise get the opportunity the chance to get up close and personal with their heroes. It’s a show about everyday people living extraordinary experiences.

SITV.COM: How has sports played a role on Fandemonium?
MC: Sports plays a significant role because it gives us a chance to be around fans – to find fanatics.  As you know, people fall in love with athletes; they fall in love with their favorite teams. Sports give us the opportunity to be in front of these people and to give these fans the prize of a lifetime. For example, if we’re at a baseball game and somebody is a huge Alex Rodriguez fan, well guess what, that gives us the opportunity to have a competition, find that biggest fanatic, and give the person the chance to sit front row or in the box seats or even meet an Alex Rodriguez, Deter Jeter, or Albert Pujols – whoever their favorite player is.

SITV.COM: Now, in one episode you visit a Chivas USA game. Those fans looked pretty nuts. In your opinion, who has the craziest fans in the world?
MC: Philly fans are insane. Denver [Broncos] fans are very, very loyal. There’s Raider Nation—but you know what, if you ever get a chance to go to Europe and watch soccer, nothing competes with 90,000 people coming to watch a game that’s going to end up 1-0. So, I’m going to say the craziest fans in the world are soccer fans.

SITV.COM: In another episode a fan got to interview the Orlando Magic. If you could interview one athlete, who would it be and why?
MC: If I could interview one athlete it would be Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson because the man is dynamic. He has been able to transform a successful college career as a football player into a career as an actor in Hollywood. He’s been through his struggles – even though he didn’t make it as a football player he became a professional wrestler and I’m a huge fan of wrestling. He had such personality there [in the WWE] and then transferred that into acting. The man’s been very lucky to have had an impact in so many unique professions.

SITV.COM: What can we look forward to in upcoming episodes of Fandemonium? Any more sports?
MC:
Oh man, we have football-training camps, which is going to give fans a chance to get even closer to their favorite athletes. Fandemonium Season 2 is going to be bigger and better than Season 1. If we did front row seats for a Mets game last year, expect to get behind the scenes and into the locker room [this year]. We’re just going to take everything one notch higher in Season 2.
