Calle 13 Remembers Michael Jackson

Towards the end of the Michael Jackson memorial today, I had the chance to speak with Residente of Calle 13. As he scrambled to click to a channel covering the event (it was pretty easy to do so), Residente told me his feelings about Jackson.

“Michael Jackson was an extremely talented guy,” Residente told SITV.COM. “People like him don’t exist anymore. The craziest thing is that he killed it in two different races—as a black man and a white man. But seriously aside from any of his personal troubles, he was a talented man and we lost an important figure. I can’t talk about his troubles or anyone for that matter.”

As always he interjected humor in his responses yet he also dropped a few gems about pop culture and the fate of celebrity.

“There’s Michael Jackson fever now in the entire world,” Residente told SITV.COM. “The same people who brought him up, brought him down, kill him and then they honor him. It’s an extremely sick thing. After he was on top, everyone as a group, the same ones who attended the [funeral], brought him down to the floor and they destroyed him. Then he dies and they praise him again. It’s a little sick. Perhaps, it’s just part of the human condition.”

Rest in peace MJ.
