Arcángel, "I'm the strangest Dominican"

Arcángel, he of the freshly groomed eyebrows, admits he’s a strange Dominican. How strange you ask? Well, the reggaetonero is such a strange Dominican that he doesn’t like bachata! Well, at least he loves his plátanos. If he hated them, he’d have to join the Alex “I’m Dominican When it’s Convenient” Rodriguez club. And we know there isn’t any coming back from that hell. SITV.COM: Your video for "Por Amar a Ciegas" is pretty emo. You’re even crying.
Arcángel: A man who tells you he never cried or that he never cried for a woman…he’s a liar. In this day in age, women are just like men. We were just talking about this right before I did this interview. That women and men are just as bad when in comes to relationships.

SITV.COM: There’s a music video online where you’re grinding on a big girl. Is that how you like your women?
Arcángel: Well, big girls need love too. It’s like a merengue remix of one of my songs, “Ganas de ti” with these talented kids (Los Galacticos) from Miami. There are a few talented kids who don’t reach their goal because they can’t find an established artist to extend a helping hand. I have to be thankful to God for all the success I’ve had. So I have to keep helping people so God can keep helping me. This merengue version of my song has been accepted more readily than the original version.

SITV.COM: Tell me about your mom’s music career in Las Chicas del Can.
Arcángel: Oh wow! That’s before I was even born. She was on fire. Singing is in my blood. I heard her singing as a kid and she still has a beautiful voice. I feel proud of my mom’s artistic background.

SITV.COM: Would you ever consider doing a merengue song?
Arcángel: No. I don’t like that type of merengue or bachata. I like urban music more. Sure, merengue is part of my culture because my family is Dominican. I must be the strangest Dominican because I don’t like bachata and I don’t know why. I find it banal with the same guitar.
