RIP Tony Silver

Mad respect to an underground filmmaker who took a risk on a lil known subculture called hip hop. For all you youngin's, there was a time when we used to get locked up for being down with hip hop and putting our names up on trains and walls. Back in 1981-82 Silver along with Henry Chalfant produced the groundbreaking documentary "Style Wars". In a time when the media depicted New York as nothing but a war-torn city populated by savage people of color, "Style Wars" became the first time this kid saw his neighborhood on TV presented within the vibrant context of art and culture. Thank you Mr. Silver for your vision and resilience. - some kid from far rock.
