Broadway vs. FilmsPOSTED December, 12 2007 ![]() So what’s better? Seeing it live on Broadway or at a movie theatre?
the story of Benjamin Barker, a.k.a Sweeney Todd, who sets up a barber shop down in London which is the basis for a sinister partnership with his fellow tenant, Mrs. Lovett. A few years ago Sweeny Todd was playing on Broadway with Patti Lapone and Michael Cerveris and the show was even nominated at the Tony. And now here we have Sweeny Todd again on the big screen with Tim Burton and Johnny Depp. You know what I think? Well, I’ll tell ya’ I think it’s going to get nominated for a couple of Oscars.
Oh, here’s a little fun fact. Did you know that during the filming of Sweeny, Helena Bonham Carter was pregnant and her breast size fulxuiate througout the film. She mentioned that because the film was shot out of order you’ll see her begin the film with mangos and end with tangerines. But anyway, moving on to other Films and Broadway comparions, we also have the recent Broadway hit YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN and wow what a great show it is. I remember seeing the film with Gene Wilder and he’s brilliant. Gene has this way of being completely calm and then loosing it with complete insanity. Well, on stage Roger Bart does not disappoint. Roger puts his on twist on the doctor and it’s just brilliant comedy.
He has impecible comc timing and a face to match it. It’s hard to pick a favorite but the Broadway cast really knocks it off the ballpark for me. But as a Latino, I would love to see one particular film come to the Broadway stage. Wouldn't SALENA The Musical be a grwat idea? Perhaps J.LO can reprise her role for the stage production. I mean the movie was a great story told (although sad, it was told good) and the music would be off the hook. So if anybody is reading this and has a hook up, pass the word around...and of course don't forget me, I'll play the delivery boy...ANYTHING, just give me a part.

Wow. This is a hard one. I would definitely say movies. But then it depends. I mean seeing the actual performance is pretty amazing. But then again I'm a film aficionado.
