Unconditional Love Is All That MattersPOSTED July, 08 2009 ![]() Today I spent the morning, as many people did, watching Michael Jackson's funeral. I was touched by all of the friends and family who spoke, those who performed, and by all of the fans who gathered from around the world to celebrate the life and death of the "King of Pop". But it wasn't until the very end of the funeral that I felt weepy. It was when MJ's daughter, Paris, got up to briefly speak about her father. That's when I got sad. She didn't have to say anything really to let us know just how much she's going to miss the man who was raising her and how much they both cared about each other. Just hearing her cry and say "I love you" is so heartfelt and touching. She's only a child, an innocent one at that, who only feels unconditional love for her father. Of course she expects him to raise and protect her, but she's not one of the people focusing on MJ's fortune, his performances, his legal battles, etc...her only thoughts are, "I lost my dad." So I think sometimes children can teach us a lot about love. Their expectations of it are completely different--more pure. Maybe that's what is missing in a lot of our relationships? Maybe we need to stop and think about why we love a person, instead of what that person can do for us? Maybe it would make our lives and our relationships fit better?
