Hair Dryers Get High Tech

It's not every day you get a $195 hair dryer sent priority to your desk. Imagine my excitement—similar to receiving a box of hand-picked See's Candies—when I did. Lord knows my hair could use a good dryer! Latino hair tends to be on the thicker side, with some prone to dryness, like mine. Metropolis Technology to the rescue! After all, there's only so far my $9.99 Revlon hair dryer can get me in the long run.

I've heard of this whole ionic technology revolutionizing hair styling tools, but nano technology was news to me. Metropolis dryers use it to tap into the scientifically recognized therapeutic properties of silver, which eliminates 99.9% of bacteria and hundreds of other offensive microorganisms. Their hairs dryers, albeit pricey, take your strands to a whole other level. Combined with a built-in ionic generator, they promise shinier, healthier, humidity-proof styles in less time while eliminating odors and frizz. Where do I sign?

I put my stinky (j/k) hair to the test. Stashed away from my roommate, who still uses Revlon (can you believe it?), I busted out my new expensive hair dyer after washing with L'Oréal's new 100% vegan hair care line, EverPure, which I highly recommend.

I was instantly impressed by two things: the easy buttons (you would think something this expensive would be more difficult to function) and the low volume. I usually wake up my roommate from her hungover state in the a.m. and practically lose my hearing every time I use a hair dryer. The Z-Ion dryer is politely quiter than regular hair dryers. The beauty of all this, you ask? My hair was dried in a record-breaking 10 minutes and was softer than ever!

I realize times are tough and splurging on a $195 hair dryer is not exactly in your cards, but think of it this way, if your hair is healthier, shinier and smells better than ever, what's the point of spending $60-$200 to get it cut? For now, I'm sticking to drying my hair and growing out these locks.

What are your hair survival tips?

I do the same thing! I leave my hair in a bun all day when I first wash it and when I want to look cute, I take it down, but when I want to keep it clean and tame, I wrap it back up in a bun. Thanks for sharing!

I wish I could afford such a luxury... but seeing as how I'm currently unemployed at the moment, I'm beating the urge to splurge on my usual curl quenching products by sticking to the good ol bun. yep. I wash every three days and when I do I wrap it in a bun on day 1, let it loose on day 2 (the curls turn into soft waves, thanks to the bun), and then rock a pony on day 3.
