BYOB (Bring Your Own Bag)POSTED May, 20 2007 ![]() I remember when I was living in Germany, I went out shopping for groceries and I noticed the other shoppers with their own bag. I did not think anything of it until I got to the check out line. While the cashier ring up my stuff and total everything up, there was a discrepancy on the total amount. I asked the cashier with my broken German, "Why is there a 1.25(Euro) more?" And she said " Its because store charges for the plastic bags and its 25 cent (Euro) per bag." Oh MY FREakin' Gosh!?!?! Of course, all the other shoppers behind me, snickering on my ignorance. After I walk out the store feeling humiliated. I learn quickly why I saw most people carry their own bags or the old ladies strolling their own shopping carts. I learn (also the hard way) that the shopping carts needed a coin in order to get one to remove it--- just like the ones at the airport. Now that people are been aware of the damaging effects of throwing away plastic bags is doing to our environment. Conscience fashionistas everywhere are catching the craze on carrying their own bags to get groceries and other items when going shopping. Quirky handbag "I'm not a plastic bag" was stating a message about the cause on reusing bag. Or the silk Hermes bag that collapses to into a wallet size pouch. Of course you can make or convert your own bag on become the ultimate shopping bag.
