Before You Vote

Remember that this is not a personality contest. While at this point anyone who “gets in” will be a better option than Bush, we should push ourselves to be extremely critical of each candidate’s position. Neither Obama or Hillary have any progressive reform plan for our healthcare system. They both favor a privatized system that has shown no slowing down when it comes to lack of affordability. They both have dished out a less than lackluster plan for immigration reform, each still spewing talk about how foreign governments have an important role in curbing immigration. Note: the male Clinton created NAFTA. The number of “illegal” immigrants to the US skyrocketed after 1994.

I know it’s easy to get caught up in the populist rhetoric of “change”. But come on, be honest with yourself. We live in the most powerful country in the world today. What transpires on Wall Street, Silicon Valley, and Washington has worldwide impact on the economy, politics, and people’s lives. Look at what’s happening in China, Kenya, and Colombia as a result of this soon-to-be recession. Do you really think that any presidential candidate is really interested in rocking this boat? Shifting so that its global power will be diminished, shared by others?
