Stuff To Do: Machos, Catch it Quick!

In 2006 the women of Teatro Luna (the nation's only Latina theater group with a full year season) set about the nation to answer the timeless question, Why are men jerks? What they learned instead is that men, Latinos in particular, have their own battles to overcome. Machos gives voice to interviews of a hundred men translated into monologues and skits. Quien es mas macho and how do young men learn this?

We watch the Machos sort out their masculinity via laughter and gravity. Inspired turns include a boyband routine about homophobia and a meditation on drinking with some mariachi backgrounds. No we don't find out why men are jerks, but we come to empathize with them through the talented performances and writing of the Teatro Luna ladies. Sure, some pieces drag at times and some of the actresses never find their inner man, but overall Machos is illuminating and entertaining.

Ah I was hoping they did answer that question... makes me want to write a screenplay about that :)
