Kirk Acevedo Fired from 'Fringe'

The other day, I blogged about three Latino stars getting the boot from TV when their shows weren't picked up for the fall season. Well, the bloodbath continues, and this time, it's TV veteran Kirk Acevedo, who confirmed on his personal Facebook page that his option has not been picked up for the hit show's second season.

Props to my boy Lee Hernandez for breaking the news. Lee reports that Kirk updated his status to read: "WELL BOYS AND GIRLS THEY DONE DID YER BOY WRONG! THEY FIRED ME OFF FRINGE, AND IVE NEVER BEEN FIRED IN MY LIFE!!!!" When asked to expound, he wrote, "It’s called not picking up my option. But at the end of the day, you got fired!”

I've complained on this blog a couple of times about the fact that the show underused Kirk, who is a dependable, kickass actor who has starred in critically acclaimed shows like Oz and movies like Band of Brothers and The Thin Red Line. Fringe is one of my favorite shows, but I had to endure week after week of the wasting of Kirk's talents (on the show, his no nonsense character serves as a counterpoint to the off-the-wall sci-fi stuff). There seemed to be hope on the horizon when the show invested an episode on a Charlie Francis storyline. Now I realize that it was probably a backhanded sendoff.

Is it just as well that he's off a show that didn't appreciate him? I think not. It sucks hard. Good luck, Kirk. I"ll be watching for your next move.
