Born in the BronxPOSTED December, 14 2007 ![]()
Every story has a beginning… I can still remember the day it all started for me, it was 1970 and I had just falling in love with my very first pair of converse high tops (Chuck Taylor) at the young age of 10 I was becoming the man on my block, Early on in my childhood I idolize all the writers and graffiti legends of that time, if only they knew how much they inspired me. And for me the occurrences and circumstances of that timeline would alter and change my life and the course of history forever. I was born in the Bronx in Fordham hospital to a poor Hispanic family who tried their very best to fit in and carve out that little piece of the American apple pie for me. But the shattered reality of how life in this new environment would treat them would prove to be a vase difference of the dream they came to New York chasing. I would have to find my own way; and the streets of the Bronx would be my mentor, I am forever a product of my environment. the 183street park on valentine avenue, is where I grew up and spent my early years playing, learning, and developing friendships and finding love, I would later go on as a teenager to Rock that Park as a up and Coming Latino Hip-Hop DJ, their would be many parks to follow, like, echo park, Arthur park, Poe park, saint James park, Webster park, and Crotona park, But 183 will always be special, if only that pavement could talk, it would tell of my greatest memories and of historic events. I also spent many years in places like Crazy eddies on Fordham road, the sound room on the concourse, and down stairs records, Crate digging for LPs buying speaker wires window shopping and day dreaming of one day owning a massive sound system. At the age of 9 I shined shoes for 25cents in front of Alexander’s; on Fordham road I also packed a 007 switch blade knife. My friends and I once got busted for breaking into Robbins on Fordham road, sad to say that it was the first of many stunts. We never paid to go to the movies, just couldn’t afford it, but we saw every premier at The RKO Fordham, the Lowes paradise theater on the concourse, the Capri and the ascot We always had the best seats in the house, but sometimes missed the previews or the end of the movie, I copped my first marker and spray paint at Shipmen’s on Fordham. And spent good times with my brother Rico and childhood friends at Krupp’s chocolate store, and the candy store on 184 street and valentine, and of course who can forget Susie’s pizzeria on 183street and Grand concourse, where we would all eat for 1 dollar, fields place, the white castle on Fordham, and the carvel’s on the concourse and Webster avenue, PS 115 on 183rd , Saint Simon stock on 182 street, JHS 179 on 181 street and Creston avenue, Roosevelt HS on Fordham, Burnside avenue, east Tremont, Roberto Clemente state park, River Park Towers, Bronx River, The Webster PAL, the Blue lagoon, the 462 Club, The Black Door, the Burger King Disco and 123, City Island, Orchard Beach, and Coney Island, 149 street and saint Mary, the Spanish market 110 street, and every Bodega I terrorized as a young buck growing up Wild, I would have to say that honestly my life really started the Day that Hip-Hop touched me for the first time in 1975, after spending the first 15years of my life aimlessly I had finally found my calling, my platform, and my Voice, finding acceptance from a community through music, would prove to be the coil and the base of a Revolution in the making, 2 Turntables and a Mixer were the weapon of choice which spoke to a collective and would set off to spark a worldwide movement and culture.......
